So starts another semester and another bunch of bubbley freshman who still optimistic about the future. Things never seem to change much here. But one thing that has changes is my weight. Overall I am down 26 pounds from March and am still going. Part of this is my diet, the other is *gasp* exercise.
It was alright in the summer because it wasn’t that crowded but … Exercise means more time in the gym. More time in the gym means more sweat. More sweat means more showers in the locker room. More showers in the locker room with the semester started again means OMG NAKED TEACHERS.
I am scared and scarred. >.>

So I went here yesterday for an interview for a job here. I had the founder Fern Powers laughing and made a favorable impression I think. They also gave me A COMPUTER TEST mainly focusing on MS Office.
I got 100% Advanced 96% Intermediate 80% Basic
They were confused by this.
They then gave me a spelling test that I got a 32% on, and a grammar test which I got a 89% on.
They were also confused by this.
They let me retake the spelling test and because it was multiple choice I paid no attention to the words and looked at the differences in each choice. So I scored a 98% the second time.
They were very confused by this. So I told them why.

3:13 am - Tales from the IT desk
|
Me: ‘Computer Network Services Randy speaking’ Her: "I need to get to UPenn" Me: ‘Hmm? It is downtown.’
After about 5 minutes to figure out what in the world she was going on about, she finally conveyed that she wanted to go to a website. Someone apparently wrote down a link for her. After painfully getting her to open IE I managed to guide her to the address bar, and type in the url. Apparently she never did that before and had been navigating the entire web via hyperlinks. English teacher~

Now you see CNS has a golf cart that we use to haul computers around campus. Joe lets me drive it because I promised to run over as many faculty as possible. One day I needed to go pick up some Student Government computer and our cart is missing! I grab a handcart and walk over there, and low and behold a cart is parked right out front of Sutherland! So I load it up, hop in (huh? It seems faster!), and get back. Suddenly I spot _our_ cart sitting right outside the entrance of Woodland. So I zoom over to the loading dock, throw the stuff in, and drive the stolen cart back to Sutherland noone the wiser. They all look the same and use the same keys!!
----
Students are not generally as bad but ... There was this Administrator of Justice Major who had her floppy die on her. This happens a lot so I keep a bunch of recovery tools on my flash drive, and I manage to get (most of) the files off of it and print what she needed.
Then 2 days later and her floppy is dead again. She storms out of the lab (I bet she has the same carrier I get _no_ reception in the woodland labs at all), calls her boyfriend, and starts crying. About a half an hour later she wanders back. It took me all of 40 seconds to grab a new floppy and dump everything that I was still on my flash drive from 2 days prior.
But here comes the best part ... She was using the _same_ fucking floppy as 2 days before!
I took it from her, gave her the new one, and told her to floppies are so fragile that even cell phone radiation can mess with them. "OH NO!! I STICK MY CELL IN THE SAME POUCH AS MY FLOPPIESSS!"
----
Next one is another student. His professor wanted a powerpoint presentation to be turned on via a CDr. This is fine, as if my experience at the help desk has taught me anything it is that not everyone is proficient to things that I find simple. It goes both ways really and there are things I have no clue about (but I can just google …) Anyway I tell him to login, but he doesn’t remember his password. This is also understandable as he never changed his original password which tends to be hard to remember. So I run him through the signature station to get his password again and then he logs in. I tell him to save the presentation to desktop and stick the CD-R in. He sticks the cd in upside down. I flip it over and notice that there is something written and crossed off in felt tip marker. Low and behold the cd is not blank. No problem there we can just add the .ppt to it ….
I notice the name of the CD. It is NEWPORN. Tabbing back to the cd window I see directories such as /Piss/. Needless to say this takes me aback a bit. I was so tempted to just burn the powerpoint and send him on his way to turn it in, but my professionalism actually kicked in for once and I told him why it might not be such a good idea to turn this in. He was confused at all of this. Apparently Staples now sells brand new CD-Rs that have been written on with felt tip makers and have porn on them. I didn’t press the issue as the lab was packed. I spotted him a CDr and sent him on his way. He let me keep the porn filled one …

With 83k people in the penn state system there are always a few who die each year. I remember reading about various ones in the collegian over the years and feeling detached about it.
Tony, my IST 402 lab partner who I have had in alot of classes since transfering, died Friday

Happy birthday to Lemolas and Arcu >.>
Edit: I think my school is being packeted. Given the fact that I can get a stable connection for like 20 seconds and I see 56 connections with 'netstat' from places like dab.dragonballz.de o.o

So my schedule got all messed up because of the 2 hour delay (that I did not know about.) So I had to wait around for a class to start.
But~ I am evil
I was just staring out the window (like I tend to do) watching the snow when a couple of guys down the hall began to talk about me in hushed voices (which I could hear quite fine >.>) "What is he looking at?" "Ugg how old is that a starter jacket" >.> <.<
So they began to stare out the window too ... soon enough
after a bit the teacher showed up. HE stared out the window too. Eventually he asked, "What are you guys looking at?"
~pause~
"Nothing" :D
It was like that old story of the person who was wandering through a city looking at skyscrapers who managed to get a large group to look upwards, and then left them staring up. Waiting.
Least they slowed down a bit. Everyone here always seems so busy.
Also I found the case for my(the school loan) digital camera! \o/ It was in the ceramics room o.O I of course have now lost my lunchbox/cooler things.
